On The 95 Theses of Geek Activism
Science Addiction has an interesting post on The 95 Theses of Geek Activism. I suggest you at least take a quick glimpse of what it entails as all of it will pertain to you eventually. The “technically adept” (nerdy) are affected by some of these problems first, but there are still some wise words in there.

#*I$(*?&*#@()!ing right. It’s not even just the corporations anymore. Its the frigging government on top of that. Right now, the Patriot Act is still in effect. You can be wiretapped by state and local authorities without notification, endure search and seizure without probable cause (as we know the term,) then be arrested without trial if you’re called on “suspicion of terrorism.”
The best part? The warrants can be obtained from a court that’s closed to the public, known as FISA. No public records, no information given. On top of that, habeas corpus is removed for “combatants” of the U.S. If you believe you’re being detained unlawfully, too bad. The terms used in most of these acts are vague enough to be misinterpreted or outright ignored.
Granted, this is an extreme example, and the intent of these laws may be good, but the possibility for abuse is reason enough to protest.
Like your privacy? That’s a nice story.

I know it. Not even related to the web: I got a letter from my bank telling me that I had to reduce the number of electronic transfers I make each month or they would shut down my ability to make them. This is all because I transfer a few bucks online from my savings to my checking account. Both my own accounts. Apparently the government is afraid that I am giving money to the terrorists.
Anyone remember the news articles from about a year ago where the government was trying to subpoena Google into handing over all the records of who searched for what? I’ll look around and see if I can find it.
Things are getting a little out of hand.

I remember that. It was a big deal for a day and then everyone forgot about it. I keep meaning to read those 95 these, but there is a lot of thinking behind all of that and I’m tired as hell. But soon, I shall and comment something of depth.
