On the ubiquitous iPod, and the conceited Apple. Fresh face coming Zune.

Lets start this off right. Who really likes Apple? Like 100%? I wouldnt mind them if they werent so cocky. The fact that iPods are marked up so much speaks volumes about what Apple thinks of all of the sheep that want one of their shiny gadgets. They dont want market share, they want your money. Mac advertising is the worst. Statements such as “The fastest personal computer on the planet” are lies, and as such were even challenged by the ASA. I personally love how they carry on about how much superior their operating system is and how it never crashes (also lies). Fact is, everything crashes. Apple is far from perfect, but their advertising would have you believe otherwise.
Now I know that there are tons of people out there with iPods. At their highest, iPods held nearly 90% of the market. Try to wrap your head around that. Now try and figure out why. I have been thinking about it for a long time and honestly I can not understand it. Personally, I find iTunes insufferable, and with all of the problems that it has I dont even want it on my computer. The fact that you are forced into using iTunes to put music on your iPod is also arduous and impractical. I know there are ways around it, but the point is, you shouldnt have to do that.
Zune. Microsofts cooked up a new PMP to steal some iPod thunder. Wifi, video sharing, music sharing, you got it all. There is still DRM, but no longer do you have to wander around in isolation. With Zune you can send music and video to your peers. Connected. Its the future my friends. Social networking (almost everyone does it.. Facebook, Myspace, Friendster, etc…) is what the greedy young kids these days want. The article below re-iterates quite nicely.
Opinion: Why Microsofts Zune scares Apple to the core

It may sound like I’m trying to sell you a Zune. But honestly, I’m perfectly happy with my Samsung YP-U1 MP3 player. Built in USB, no cable needed. I can put anything I want on it, and it was less than 100 bucks. I dont listen to it that much. Besides listening to music for long periods of time is detrimental to your hearing.

I like my iPod, if only for the fact that if it breaks, I know I can get it fixed somewhere… unlike the iRiver, which is of mysterious origin.
Also, I’m the 1st comment so I rule.

Actually, Sarah was the first post. I just hadn’t moderated it yet. I’m going to guess that if your iPod breaks they arent going to fix it, just replace it. Which is probably what every electronics company does these days. In all honesty I dont find their interface all that intuitive. Although I do like the click wheel more then some other capactive scroll systems. Its not that I hate Apple, on the contrary, I find their products agreeable as I should since I have to use one every day at work. I just do not think they are as cool and hip as everyone else precieves them to be. Then again, what is as cool as it looks?

In all honesty, I’m a bit ashamed of my iPod. I’m happy with the product, but I don’t want to be accused of just jumping on the bandwagon. I bought an iPod because I wanted a mp3 player with over 20GB of storage and when I researched other brands, the iPod had the highest rating of user satisfaction.
I don’t dig the whole iPod trend thing. I actually wouldn’t mind ditching those tell tale iPod headphones, I just have never bothered to.
Also, shucks on the whole 2nd comment thing. Damn your moderating. My site don’t moderate.

i went to the apple store in NYC. really not impressed. they make it seem like they have so many prodcuts, yet they just have every possible color and size of iPod displayed on the floor. you can see some pictures on jason’s facebook if you’d like.

plus, i know more people who have them and have had problems, than haven’t. i spent a half hour trying to unfreeze anna’s the other night and it didn’t work.

    anyway, happy 1/80th.

Honestly, I can help fix a frozen windows machine… but a Mac. I’d need a priest.

  9. [...] It might take some digging, but a faithful reader (do I even have any of those?) would know that I don’t like iPods. I’ve written about it before here and I have rambled about how I still like CD’s here. [...]
