On the ubiquitous iPod, and the conceited Apple. Fresh face coming Zune.

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Lets start this off right. Who really likes Apple? Like 100%? I wouldnt mind them if they werent so cocky. The fact that iPods are marked up so much speaks volumes about what Apple thinks of all of the sheep that want one of their shiny gadgets. They dont want market share, they want your money. Mac advertising is the worst. Statements such as “The fastest personal computer on the planet” are lies, and as such were even challenged by the ASA. I personally love how they carry on about how much superior their operating system is and how it never crashes (also lies). Fact is, everything crashes. Apple is far from perfect, but their advertising would have you believe otherwise.
Now I know that there are tons of people out there with iPods. At their highest, iPods held nearly 90% of the market. Try to wrap your head around that. Now try and figure out why. I have been thinking about it for a long time and honestly I can not understand it. Personally, I find iTunes insufferable, and with all of the problems that it has I dont even want it on my computer. The fact that you are forced into using iTunes to put music on your iPod is also arduous and impractical. I know there are ways around it, but the point is, you shouldnt have to do that.
Zune. Microsofts cooked up a new PMP to steal some iPod thunder. Wifi, video sharing, music sharing, you got it all. There is still DRM, but no longer do you have to wander around in isolation. With Zune you can send music and video to your peers. Connected. Its the future my friends. Social networking (almost everyone does it.. Facebook, Myspace, Friendster, etc…) is what the greedy young kids these days want. The article below re-iterates quite nicely.
Opinion: Why Microsofts Zune scares Apple to the core

It may sound like I’m trying to sell you a Zune. But honestly, I’m perfectly happy with my Samsung YP-U1 MP3 player. Built in USB, no cable needed. I can put anything I want on it, and it was less than 100 bucks. I dont listen to it that much. Besides listening to music for long periods of time is detrimental to your hearing.
